Blooming, Care and Culture, Classification, Growing Indoors
I define “easy” orchids as those that can be grown indoors in mild climates in homes that have the heating on during the daytime in winter.
This gorgeous hybrid is a soft-caned Dendrobium, originally bred fro the species D. nobile which originates from India and Nepal. D. Stardust was raised in 1986 by a Japanese nursery in Hawaii; the hybrids come in a wide range of flamboyant colors and produce their flowers on short stems along the length of the elongated pseudobulbs, otherwise known as canes. The blooms last roughly four weeks and appear in early spring following the plant’s winter rest. During this rest, the plant should be kept dry until the buds are seen. Keep these orchids cool and in full light during the rest period, but provide warmer conditions by moving them to a shadier aspect after flowering when their long canes immediately start to grow.
Flower Size: 2 1/2 inches (6cm) across
