Blooming, Care and Culture, Classification, Growing Indoors
I define “easy” orchids as those that can be grown indoors in mild climates in homes that have the heating on during the daytime in winter.
This is the classic hybrid, bred in 1994 in Taiwan. It has neatly arching flower spikes and up to a dozen blooms with overlapping petals. These tall spikes will need extra support to prevent them from kinking under their own weight. The plant is robust, with the broad, thick leaves that are typical of the genus and with aerial roots that prefer to remain outside the pot. When the plant is large enough it will seldom be out of flower. You can extend the flowering by cutting back the stem to a lower node immediately after the first flush. This will encourage more branching. This variety is also very popular for floral displays.
Flower Size: 4 inches (10cm) across
Flower Spike: 20 inches (50cm)
Plant Spread: 14 inches (35cm)
Pot Size: 5 inches (12cm)
