I define “easy” orchids as those that can be grown indoors in mild climates in homes that have the heating on during the daytime in winter.

This delightful, fragrant cattleya is very similar to the species C. mossiae, which is one of its parents. The similarities lie in the open shape of the flower and the coloring on the lip. Usually just a single bloom is produced on a short spike from the apex of the long pseudobulb. This bloom can last up to three weeks. Its pale lilac coloring is bordering on the elusive blue, which is a constant challenge for the breeders of these fine orchids. This is a British hybrid, raised in 1993 in a range that as yet is quite restricted. It flowers in spring and summer, and requires intermediate temperatures and good light.
