Fairly Easy Orchids – Masdevallia Magdalena X Marguerite

Blooming, Care and Culture, Classification, Growing Indoors
I define “fairly easy” orchids as those that, while suitable for a beginner, may not be quite as tolerant of less than ideal conditions as the “easy” orchids.
This exquisite hybrid shows the depth of coloring that can be achieved. It is extremely free flowering and produces its cheerful single flowers on slender spikes. While this plant can be divided regularly, it is better when left to grow into a larger specimen so that its full beauty can be realized. The cherry-red flowers will last for two to three weeks throughout summer; they display the characteristic tails on enlarged sepals which give this genus the name of kite orchids. This orchid needs the same care as Masdevallia Marguerite (see my Fairly Easy Orchids – Masdevallia Marguerite post) and Masdevallia Mary Staal (see my Fairly Easy Orchids – Masdevallia Mary Staal post).
